Krokholmen – Real-Time Cabin Study

This personal project marks my first in-depth exploration into real-time architectural animation using Unreal Engine and Lumen. Inspired by the iconic Krokholmen House by Tham & Videgård, the project investigates the interplay of geometry, light, and nature in a remote forest setting.

The goal was to achieve high-end cinematic visuals while exploring the latest advancements in real-time lighting. This study served as both a technical milestone and a creative investigation into atmosphere, storytelling, and spatial experience within an immersive 3D environment.

By leveraging Unreal Engine’s real-time capabilities, the production time for animation was reduced by up to 95–99% compared to traditional offline rendering solutions such as Corona or V-Ray. This drastic improvement not only enabled faster design iterations but also made high-quality visual storytelling more accessible and cost-effective.
