Vannkanten: Wood, Water, and the Norwegian Spirit
Vannkanten, designed by AART Architects, stands as one of Europe’s largest timber residential developments and a celebrated highlight of 2015 according to Archilovers. Situated along Stavanger’s waterfront, the project pays homage to the city's timber heritage while embracing the dynamism of the Norwegian coastline. This aerial image was crafted to capture the strong dialogue between architecture and landscape—the warm tones of the wooden façade contrast beautifully with the deep blues of the sea. Despite its complex and irregular geometry, the development reads as a natural continuation of the urban fabric. The play of sunlight across the structure, gradually fading into shadows, guides the viewer’s attention across the layered volumes, reinforcing the harmony between design, light, and nature. A personal favorite among my aerial works.
